Is my video uploaded?
No. The speech is transcribed on your iPhone and the subtitles are burned in on your iPhone. The video and its sound are never sent anywhere.
Which languages can it transcribe?
Apple's speech recognition handles many languages, including English, Danish, German, French, Spanish, Japanese and Korean. Pick the language before you transcribe. With Whisper, the app can also detect the language itself.
Why aren't all the words right?
Speech recognition is good but not perfect, especially with background noise or music. You can fix every word and time in the list before you save. The Whisper Balanced or Best models often make fewer mistakes.
What is Whisper?
A speech model from OpenAI that runs on your iPhone through WhisperKit. You download it once in Settings, and after that it works without the internet.
How long can my videos be?
Undertekst is made for videos up to about 10 minutes. It handles up to 30 minutes, but that takes longer.
Is my original video changed?
No. Undertekst saves a new video with the subtitles. The original stays unchanged in Photos.
What is an .srt file?
A plain text file with the subtitles and their times. You can use it in other video editors and on YouTube, where viewers can turn the subtitles on and off.
What does it cost?
Nothing. If you'd like to give something back, you can become a supporter inside the app and get the show-off icons.
How do I get my supporter icons back on a new phone?
Open Settings → Supporter → Restore Purchase in Undertekst, with the Apple Account you bought it with.
